Who Improves the Robot? Toward Physical Recursive Self-Improvement

Hai Zhou, Fan Yang, Zeyi Chen, Lejun Zhang, Chenyang Fu, Jianping Li, Jiayi Zhu, Xianyang Liu, Yingxuan Yang, Lili Meng, Lu Wang, Xinyang Han, Jiankai Sun, Weirui Ye, Guanchu Wang, Wanhua Li, Ming Zhou, Boyi Li, Ming Jin, Kun Shao

Robots are increasingly autonomous in task execution, yet their improvement remains largely human-driven. This study investigates Physical Recursive Self-Improvement (Physical RSI), in which physical experience guides lasting updates to both a robot's capabilities and its improvement procedure, making subsequent improvement more effective across tasks.

Which Trajectory Is Safer? Combining Rule and Learning for Safety Evaluation

Xuewen Luo, Linlian Jiang, Bo Yu, Fan Ding, Xinxin Zuo, Yang Wang

Collision rate remains a dominant metric for evaluating autonomous driving trajectory safety, but its binary nature obscures substantial safety differences among collision-free trajectories. Existing surrogate-safety metrics provide finer-grained assessments, yet often trade off physical interpretability against adaptivity to interaction context.

Efficient Hybrid Hard--Soft Signal Temporal Logic MPC for Driving under Multimodal Uncertainty

Kumar Manas, Adrian Paschke

Motion planning for automated vehicles in interactive traffic has to simultaneously ensure safety, respect traffic rules, and maintain comfortable progress under multi-modal behavior uncertainty. Imposing all these requirements as hard constraints reduces feasibility, whereas treating them all as costs allows safety-critical requirements to be traded against progress.

A Hardware-Partitioned micro-ROS Mini-Vehicle for Operator-Supervised Neural Driving

Gustavo Claudio Karl Couto, Eric Aislan Antonelo, Gabriel George Zipperer

We present a low-cost miniature Ackermann vehicle for embedded neural-driving research, organized as a hardware-partitioned perceive-decide-act agent: an ESP32 camera node streams frames over Wi-Fi to a host computer, where neural inference and state estimation run, while an ESP32-S3 chassis controller executes safety-critical actuation in a 100 Hz per-wheel proportional-integral-derivative (PID) loop beneath a micro-ROS client. The partition isolates real-time control and safety on the vehicle while learning-based components run off-board, supervised by an operator from a gamepad.

EndoRSI: Physical-Evidence-Driven Recursive Improvement of Endoscopic Robot Policies

Chi Kit Ng, Yidong Zhang, Tianchun Wu, Siu Hing Lui, Hanlin Zhao, Huxin Gao, Hongliang Ren

Artificial intelligence is beginning to automate scientific discovery, yet physical robot-policy research still relies on scientists and engineers to interpret experimental failures and decide how controllers should be revised. We present EndoRSI (Endoscopic Recursive Self-Improvement), a human-governed, self-improving robotic research system in which the embedded EndoForge coding agent iteratively develops and refines endoscopic robot policies using evidence from physical experiments.

A Local Agentic AI Framework to Generate Edge Case Scenarios for Safety Assurance

Victoria J. Hodge, Colin Paterson, Rob Alexander

Generating edge case scenarios is crucial for training, testing and safety assuring autonomous systems. This identifies hazardous failures to increase system reliability and robustness, ensures the system can still function safely on the boundaries of its operational design domain and learns the expected system behaviour for these edge cases.

NEUPRO lernt interpretierbare Sicherheitsregeln aus Bildern für Robotersteuerung

Zihan Ye, Jiayi Liu, Puze Liu, Jiayun Li, Georgia Chalvatzaki, Jan Peters, Kristian Kersting

ExceptionDrive: A Planning-Oriented Counterfactual Corner-Case Benchmark for Autonomous Driving

Ziyi Luo, Zhe Sun, Yehao Lu, Lei Zhou, Lisheng Wu, Xuewei Li, Zequn Qin, Xi Li

Average performance on routine driving benchmarks does not establish planner reliability under rare, safety-critical hazards. We proposed ExceptionDrive, a counterfactual planning benchmark that uses VLM-assisted screening, localized multi-view editing, and quality auditing to insert hazards into real nuScenes scenes while preserving their context.
