AlphaNIST: Emergent Assembly Skills from Binary Task Rewards
NVIDIA researchers report in a preprint that a single simulated robot arm learned all 20 assembly jobs on the standard NIST test board, from threading nuts to plugging in connectors, with a 98.2% success rate and no human demonstrations, only a pass or fail signal at the end. Everything so far happened in simulation, so the open question for factory buyers is whether the skills survive contact with a real board.
