VLM-Guided Contact Retargeting and Generative Partner Modeling for Humanoid-Human Interaction

A Unitree G1 humanoid trained only in simulation on human-to-human motion data completed 31 of 50 real close-contact interactions with a person, including 8 of 10 hugs and 8 of 10 pats on the back, using just its own camera, researchers from Carnegie Mellon and Keio University report in a preprint. Their REACT method uses a vision-language model to label which body contacts matter before transferring the motions to the robot.
