Active perception for VLA policies: training data aligned to camera-move endpointsIntermediate
Look Before You Act: Bridging Active Perception and Vision-Language-Action Models via Observation-Aligned Data Adaptation
Teaching a robot to move its wrist camera before it reaches lifted real-world success under occlusion from 35 of 90 trials to 83 of 90 (92.2%), but only after the policy was retrained on data that starts where the camera move ends, according to a Fudan University preprint. Bolting the camera move onto an unchanged pi0.5 policy cut simulated success from 46.3% to 11.5%.
