- Skild AI and Figure top the largest humanoid and embodied-AI funding rounds of 2025-2026, as money moves from robot bodies to robot brains
Skild AI's $1.4 billion Series C, led by SoftBank, and Figure AI's $1 billion Series C, led by Parkway Venture Capital, are the two largest humanoid and embodied-AI rounds in MEKAWIRE's verified records since January 2025, and together make up 41% of the $5.86 billion disclosed across 22 rounds. Humanoid makers took 70% of disclosed money in 2025, but developers of robot foundation models have taken 71% in 2026 so far, and NVIDIA joined seven rounds without leading one.
Mentioned - What is a vision-language-action (VLA) model, and who is building them?
A vision-language-action (VLA) model is one neural network that reads camera images and a plain-language instruction and outputs a robot's next motor commands, built by training a vision-language model on robot demonstrations. Google DeepMind, Physical Intelligence, NVIDIA, Figure AI, Skild AI and AgiBot lead, and the commercial race now turns on the cost of action data rather than model design.
Mentioned - Service robot sales jump 24% on logistics machines while humanoids sold about 7,000 units in 2025, IFR says
Shipments of professional service robots rose 24% to almost 250,000 units in 2025, led by 117,500 transport and logistics robots, the International Federation of Robotics said on 30 September 2026. The IFR counted about 7,000 full-size humanoids sold worldwide and 174 humanoid makers, more than half of them in China, and said most humanoid uses still rely on teleoperation.
Mentioned - General Intuition raises $220 million at a $6.2 billion valuation, betting gameplay clips can teach robots to act
General Intuition, which trains AI models on action-labelled gameplay clips from the Medal platform, said on 29 September 2026 that it had raised $220 million at a $6.2 billion valuation from investors including Khosla Ventures and General Catalyst. The figure is 2.7 times the $2.3 billion it disclosed with its Series A 96 days earlier, and the company has opened a waitlist for partners in robotics, simulation and games.
Mentioned - Watney raises $80 million Series A to put dexterous robots on hyperscale data-centre floors
Watney has raised an $80 million Series A co-led by the Valor Atreides AI Fund and Hummingbird Ventures, taking its total funding past $100 million. The San Francisco company runs dexterous robots for hyperscale cloud operators and claims better than 99.99% reliability over hundreds of thousands of operating hours, but it disclosed no customer names, valuation or founders.
Mentioned - D-Robotics raises US$400 million to sell its Sunrise chips as the compute layer for China's robot makers
D-Robotics, the robot-chip business Horizon Robotics stopped consolidating in March, said on 17 September 2026 it had closed a US$400 million Series C without naming a single investor or a valuation. The company says it has shipped more than 8 million Sunrise chips and that its newest S600 part won more than 20 robot customers within six months, including UBTECH, Fourier and Booster Robotics.
Mentioned - Fujitsu enlists FANUC, Yaskawa and Kawasaki to build a sovereign physical AI platform on NVIDIA technology
Fujitsu said on July 16 it had begun exploring physical AI businesses with three of Japan's largest robot makers, FANUC, Yaskawa Electric and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, using NVIDIA Cosmos, Omniverse, Isaac and the Newton physics engine. Fujitsu will build a common software platform and hardware interfaces, with manufacturing, retail and logistics, and healthcare as first targets. No timeline or financial terms were given.
Subject - Kawasaki opens a physical AI centre in San Jose with NVIDIA, Microsoft, Analog Devices and Fujitsu, starting with hospital robots
Kawasaki Heavy Industries opened the Kawasaki Physical AI Center San Jose on May 21 to develop AI-driven robot systems with NVIDIA, Analog Devices, Microsoft and Fujitsu, with healthcare and elderly care as the first focus. President Yasuhiko Hashimoto said the goal is a hospital one-stop solution covering patients from arrival to post-operative care. The move comes as Kawasaki plans to lift robot sales 24% this year, led by car body and semiconductor equipment lines.
Partner - Japan approves AI robotics strategy targeting a 30% global share and 20 trillion yen market by 2040
Japan's inter-ministerial AI robotics council on March 26, 2026 endorsed a national strategy that aims to win more than 30% of a multi-purpose robot market the government expects to reach about 60 trillion yen by 2040. The plan promises an open-source domestic robot foundation model by around June 2027, names 16 deployment fields and defers concrete sector targets to a roadmap revision due in May.
Mentioned - Rivian spinout Mind Robotics raises $500 million Series A, and Rivian books a $506 million gain on its stake
Mind Robotics, the industrial AI robotics company founded and led by Rivian chief executive RJ Scaringe, said on March 11, 2026 that Accel and Andreessen Horowitz co-led a $500 million Series A, about four months after a $115 million seed. Rivian's filings show it deconsolidated the start-up in March, valued its remaining 37.6% at about $569 million using the Series A share price and recorded a $506 million gain, which by MEKAWIRE arithmetic implies an equity value near $1.51 billion.
Mentioned - LimX Dynamics raises $200 million Series B as JD and SAIC-backed capital bet on its robot operating system
Shenzhen-based LimX Dynamics said on 2 February 2026 it had closed a US$200 million Series B with investors including Stone Venture, JD, Oriental Fortune Capital, CoStone Capital and SAIC-backed Shangqi Capital. The round came three weeks after the launch of LimX COSA, the agentic operating system that runs its full-size humanoid Oli, and the company added a second US$200 million pre-IPO round 162 days later.
