- Who is buying robot companies in 2026? Chipmakers pay 93% of the disclosed dollars while robot makers mostly pick up hardware cheaply
Chip companies are the big spenders in robotics M&A this year. Of USD 9.82 billion in disclosed, dollar-priced acquisitions of robotics and physical-AI companies announced in 2026 and tracked by MEKAWIRE, AMD and Mobileye account for 92.6%. Robot and automation makers did more deals (9 of 14) but mostly bought hardware cheaply. The exception is Omron, which is paying 29.9 times EBITDA for US industrial-PC maker OnLogic.
Mentioned - Omron agrees to buy US industrial-PC maker OnLogic for $675m, paying about 30 times EBITDA for a physical-AI edge computer
Omron said in a Tokyo Stock Exchange disclosure on Oct 13 that it will buy Interlogic, parent of Vermont industrial-PC maker OnLogic, for USD 675 million on an enterprise-value basis, in cash and mostly from cash on hand. The price is 4.4 times OnLogic's 2025 revenue of USD 154.2 million and about 30 times its reported EBITDA, a rich multiple for computer hardware that Omron justifies with a plan to build a physical-AI platform on OnLogic's machines. Closing is expected around January 2027.
