- Origami Robotics starts mass-producing S1 glove that records 20 finger joints and touch
San Francisco startup Origami Robotics said in a blog post on Oct 21 that it has started mass production of S1, a glove that records 20 finger joint angles with encoders, pressure at the fingertips and palm, and wrist-camera video on one timeline, so human demonstrations map joint for joint onto its own robot hand. The company reports millimetre-level fingertip accuracy against OptiTrack motion capture and says the glove kept measuring when cameras lost sight of the fingers; it gave no price or shipping date.
Subject - Eka Robotics confirms $150M Series A led by a16z and F-Prime for force-based robot model
Eka Robotics said in a blog post on Oct 20 that it raised a $150 million Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz and F-Prime, with seed leads Obvious Ventures and E14 Fund returning and MFV Partners, Bison Ventures, Glasswing Ventures, Samsung Next and several Fortune 500 strategic investors joining. The startup trains a vision-force-action model with reinforcement learning in simulation and says its robots pick unseen objects at 1,500 operations an hour, about 2.5 times a human baseline of roughly 600. A $1.45 billion valuation has been reported by the press; Eka has not stated it.
