HL Robotics, a wholly owned subsidiary of HL Holdings, said on Oct 16 that it will give STAN, an autonomous robot that parks cars outdoors, its Korean debut at the 32nd ITS World Congress in Gangneung from Oct 19 to 23, according to an Industry News report of the announcement.

Two STAN units will work an outdoor demonstration area in the Gangneung Hockey Centre car park set up to mimic an airport, picking up vehicles, moving them and storing them, while a digital-twin control system tracks robot and car positions, routes and task status in real time, plans paths so the robots do not collide and stages cars that are due to leave.

The company called STAN the world's first outdoor autonomous parking robot, a claim MEKAWIRE has not verified, and said it is working on a combined indoor and outdoor service that pairs STAN with its indoor robot PARKIE for large sites such as airports.

Chief executive Kim Yun-ki said parking robots in Korea had so far been sold mainly for indoor garages and that the company wants to widen domestic adoption outdoors. The same congress is also the launch venue for SOS Lab's ML-I lidar for smart parking, which MEKAWIRE covered on Oct 15.

Good or bad news for the company?
