LG Electronics pools its robot software engineers into a new platform unit under ex-ETRI executive Kim Young-jun
LG Electronics has set up a 'Robot Software Platform' organisation that gathers robot software developers previously spread across business units and labs, ZDNet Korea reported on Oct 16; an LG official told the outlet the move follows the same logic as the Robotics Business Center created under CEO Lyu Jae-cheol in June, and LG has not issued a release.
According to the report, the unit sits under that centre, covers control, planning, learning, simulation, operating system and middleware, and is led by executive vice president Kim Young-jun, who came from ETRI and SK Telecom's AI unit and joined LG's AI research lab in 2024.
The report adds that LG is trialling its CLOiD semi-humanoid in appliance plants, producing first AXIUM humanoid actuators in Changwon and plans a bipedal humanoid early next year; MEKAWIRE covered LG's robot AI data factory, where hundreds of CLOiD units are to generate training data, on Oct 15.
