A Passive AI System for Verifying Physical State on Automated Liquid Handlers
Preprint. The authors built a passive, external vision system called Labware Setup Checker that verifies deck preparation on an Opentrons Flex liquid handler without modifying the robot's hardware or firmware. It correctly identified a completed plate-and-base assembly in all 29 pre-motion frames and matched the protocol reference in 95.1% of 348 exact-match labware classifications. This matters because it adds non-intrusive setup verification that could reduce manual deck errors in lab automation.
