Mbodi AI
New York startup whose agent software lets factory staff teach industrial robots new skills by talking to them and showing a short demonstration.
Mbodi AI was founded in 2024 in New York by Sebastian Peralta, its chief executive, a physicist and roboticist, and Xavier (Tianhao) Chi, formerly a tech lead on Google Public DNS. The company went through Y Combinator's Spring 2025 batch. Its software turns spoken or written instructions and brief demonstrations into robot actions, using generative AI and a group of cooperating agents that handle perception, reasoning, planning and control, and it is meant to run across different robot hardware so that a skill learned by one robot can be shared with a fleet. Mbodi targets high mix, low volume production where reprogramming robots is slow and costly, and it publishes an open source library, embodied-agents, for connecting transformer models to robots. ABB Robotics named Mbodi one of two winners of its 2024 AI Startup Challenge on December 17, 2024, awarding $30,000 in project funding, six months in ABB's SynerLeap accelerator and work with ABB engineers toward a first commercial application in 2025. In July 2026 the Association for Advancing Automation named it winner of the Automate 2026 Startup Challenge and reported that it was running pilots with two large pharmaceutical companies. The size of its venture funding and the names of its investors have not been disclosed on primary pages.
