LG hires Hyundai's former Robotics Lab chief Hyun Dong-jin to run physical AI, report says
LG has appointed Hyun Dong-jin, who headed Hyundai Motor Group's Robotics Lab as a vice president, as executive vice president in charge of physical AI at LG Science Park, the group's research hub, the Korea Economic Daily reported on Oct 23 as an exclusive, citing industry sources.
According to the paper, Hyun took up the post this month and is to act as the control tower for the group's long-term robot business, including next-generation humanoid development and the robotics work spread across LG affiliates.
Neither LG nor Hyundai Motor Group has announced the appointment, so MEKAWIRE treats it as reported and unconfirmed. MEKAWIRE context: LG's robot activity sits in separate affiliates, from LG Electronics, which pooled its robot software engineers into a new platform unit on Oct 16 and plans a bipedal humanoid built with group parts in early 2027 under its NVIDIA pact, to Bear Robotics, which launched the KINO-2 learning platform on Oct 21, and LG Innotek, which showed humanoid vision sensors with NVIDIA this week.
A group-level physical AI post would be the first single owner for that work.
