Action-Aligned Latent Planning for Versatile Humanoid Loco-Manipulation

Yutang Lin, Guanya Shi, C. Karen LiuAmazon FAR; Carnegie Mellon University; Stanford University

A single planner that steers a frozen whole-body controller through its latent commands reached 42.0% mean success on box pickup, door opening and object grasping in simulation, against 11.6% for replaying the same latents and 3.5% for a kinematic planner, according to a preprint from Amazon FAR, Carnegie Mellon and Stanford. On a real Unitree G1 it succeeded in 6 of 10 box pickups, 4 of 10 door openings and 2 of 10 grasps, trained only in simulation.

DiPLO: Self-distilled Diffusion Planning for Loco-manipulation

Shafeef Omar, Sebastian Sanokowski, Elham Daneshmand, Dian Yu, Daniel Cremers, Cordelia Schmid, Majid KhadivTechnical University of Munich; McGill University; INRIA

Researchers at TUM, McGill and INRIA report in a preprint that a diffusion motion planner for a humanoid, built from only 29 retargeted demonstrations, reaches about 99% task success on pick-carry-place in simulation after two post-training steps, against about 45% for the pretrained model. On a real Unitree G1 it succeeded 10 of 10 times on a repeated goal and 5 of 5 on distinct goals without real-world fine-tuning.
