Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR)
Odense maker of autonomous mobile robots for factory and warehouse transport, owned by Teradyne since 2018.
Mobile Industrial Robots, known as MiR, was founded in 2013 and is based in Odense, Denmark, where it lists its address on Energivej under Danish CVR number 29138060. It makes collaborative autonomous mobile robots that move goods inside factories and warehouses without fixed guides. The current line covers the MiR250, which carries up to 250 kilograms, the MiR600 for pallets of up to 600 kilograms at up to 2 metres per second, the MiR1200 Pallet Jack for 1,200 kilogram pallets and the MiR1350, rated at 1,350 kilograms and described as its most powerful robot; the MiR Fleet software manages robot fleets, and the MiR Go programme lists approved third-party models. Teradyne announced on 25 April 2018 that it would buy MiR for 121 million euros, or 148 million dollars, net of cash acquired, plus up to 101 million euros (124 million dollars at the time) in payments tied to performance targets running through 2020. Teradyne said MiR had been profitable with 12 million dollars of revenue in 2017, after sales rose fivefold from 2015 to 2016 and tripled from 2016 to 2017, and that it booked 5 million dollars in the first quarter of 2018. At the time Thomas Visti was chief executive and founder Niels Jul Jacobsen held the CSO title. Teradyne, which already owned the cobot maker Universal Robots, compared MiR's robots with those cobots as tools that let companies of any size automate step by step. No outside funding round before the acquisition is documented on a primary page, and the purchase is recorded here rather than as a funding round.
