Teradyne Robotics turns profitable in Q3 on $96M revenue, though sales slip 4% from Q2
Teradyne said in its third-quarter results, filed with the SEC on Oct 28, that its Robotics segment, Universal Robots and MiR, posted $96 million of revenue and achieved profitability, its highest third-quarter revenue to date.
The profit figure was not given. By MEKAWIRE's calculation, revenue fell 3.9% from Q2's $99.9 million, and nine-month robotics revenue of $287.2 million already equals 93% of all of 2025. Group revenue rose 70% to $1,306 million.
Teradyne said in its third-quarter results on Oct 27, filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission as an exhibit to a Form 8-K on Oct 28, that its Robotics segment "achieved profitability" in the quarter on revenue of $96 million. The company called it the segment's highest third-quarter revenue to date. The release does not state the size of the profit; the segment figure will appear in the quarterly 10-Q.
The robots were a small part of a strong quarter. Teradyne reported group revenue of $1,306 million, up from $769 million a year earlier, of which $1,072 million came from Semiconductor Test and $138 million from Product Test. GAAP earnings were $2.17 per diluted share against $0.75. Chief executive Greg Smith listed robotics among the AI-related demand drivers. Guidance for the fourth quarter is revenue of $1,250 million to $1,350 million.
Profit arrived while sales dipped
MEKAWIRE's Teradyne explainer of Oct 18 showed the segment losing $2.6 million before tax in the second quarter on $99.9 million of revenue, after a $99.4 million pre-tax loss for 2025. Set against those filed figures, the third quarter is the first profitable one in the series we track, but revenue fell 3.9% from the second quarter, ending the run of sequential growth that the July 10-Q described as five quarters long.

FY2023 to Q2 2026 from the 10-K and July 10-Q; Q3 2026 from the Oct 27 results release. 9M = H1 + Q3. Change vs Q2 = (96.0 − 99.9) / 99.9.
Nine-month robotics revenue now stands at $287.2 million (first half $191.2 million plus $96 million), 93% of the $308.3 million the segment booked in the whole of 2025. Robotics was 7.4% of group revenue in the quarter, against 7.5% in the second quarter.
MEKAWIRE analysis
Teradyne Robotics crossed into profit on lower sequential revenue, which supports our Oct 18 reading that cost cuts, not pricing power, are carrying the turnaround.
A unit that becomes profitable while selling less than in the prior quarter is gaining through its cost base. The counter-argument is the year-on-year picture: the company calls this its best third quarter ever, and the 2026 total is on course to beat 2025. Two filed numbers will decide which reading holds: the Q3 segment profit and gross margin in the 10-Q, due in early November, and whether fourth-quarter robotics revenue returns above $100 million.
