Roboception GmbH was founded in April 2015 in Munich by three former researchers of the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics at the German Aerospace Center (DLR): Michael Suppa, Heiko Hirschmüller and Korbinian Schmid. It builds 3D stereo sensors including the rc_visard NG, rc_visard and rc_viscore, and the rc_reason software suite with modules such as ItemPickAI, CADMatch and BoxPick; its AppliedAI software is part of the KUKA.SmartBinPicking package. On 12 June 2024 Basler AG announced that it had acquired 25.1 percent of Roboception, joining the founders, Henrik Schunk Beteiligungen GmbH and KUKA Deutschland GmbH as shareholders. The price was not disclosed.
