Sevensense Robotics
Zurich ETH spin-off making Visual SLAM navigation for autonomous mobile robots, acquired by ABB in January 2024.
Sevensense Robotics was founded in 2018 in Zurich as a spin-off of ETH Zurich and develops AI-based 3D vision navigation, built on Visual SLAM, that lets autonomous mobile robots and cleaning machines localize and move without fixed infrastructure; Gregory Hitz was chief executive at the time of its Series A. On 18 November 2021 the company announced a 7.7 million US dollar Series A led by ABB Technology Ventures, expected to close by the end of that month, to scale production and develop new business; ABB described the deal as a minority investment combined with a partnership to bring the technology into its own mobile robots. On 11 January 2024 ABB announced it had acquired Sevensense, which then had about 35 employees, without disclosing terms. The business now operates as part of ABB Robotics.
