Innodep and Robotis spin-off Robotis AI team up to turn the GAEMI delivery robot into an AI patrol unit
Korean video-surveillance software maker Innodep said on Oct 15 that it has signed an MOU with Robotis AI, the 2025 spin-off of Robotis' autonomous-driving unit, to build patrol services on Robotis AI's outdoor GAEMI robot linked to Innodep's AI video analytics and control platform, Boannews reported.
A patrol model is due to be shown at KPEX 2026 in Songdo on Oct 21; no contract value or customer was disclosed, and no release was found on either company's site.
Innodep, a Korean supplier of AI video-analytics and control-room software, said on Oct 15 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Robotis AI to develop and commercialise autonomous patrol-robot services, according to security trade outlet Boannews. Robotis AI was spun out in 2025 from the autonomous-driving business of Robotis, the KOSDAQ-listed maker of DYNAMIXEL actuators. Neither company's website carried a release when MEKAWIRE checked, so the details are as reported.
The idea is simple and the market is large: Korean cities run thousands of fixed CCTV cameras, and the blind spots between them are where a mobile robot could earn its keep.
Who does what
Under the MOU, Robotis AI builds the patrol robot on its outdoor autonomous platform GAEMI, handles repeated route patrols in designated zones and runs field trials and operations, according to the report. Innodep develops AI video-analysis functions for the robot's camera feed, improves recognition performance and links the patrol video into its integrated control platform, so operators see fixed cameras and moving robots on one screen. Both will plan products and look for public and private customers in public safety and facility management.
The partners plan to show a patrol version, called 'Ilgaemi' (worker ant), at KPEX 2026, the international police and security industry exhibition at Songdo Convensia in Incheon opening on Oct 21. Innodep says it supplies and operates video-control platforms for 127 local governments, which is the installed base the partners would sell into. No price, fleet size, pilot site or contract value was disclosed.
MEKAWIRE analysis
The value in patrol robots sits in the control room, not the chassis, and this deal gives a delivery-robot maker a channel it could not build alone.
Outdoor delivery robots have struggled to find paying volume in Korea, and repurposing them for security is a way to reuse the same navigation stack in a market where the buyer, a local government control centre, already has a budget line and a software vendor. Innodep brings that buyer relationship. The strongest counter-argument is that patrol robots compete with cheaper fixed cameras and drones, and public procurement cycles are slow.

Bull case: KPEX leads to municipal pilots in 2027 and the integrated control screen becomes a standard procurement item. Bear case: the MOU stays a trade-show demo. Signals to watch: the KPEX demonstration on Oct 21 to 24, any procurement notice for robot patrol services from a local government, and Robotis' disclosures on its stake in Robotis AI.

Why it matters
Security patrol is one of the few outdoor-robot uses with an existing public budget in Korea. Pairing a robot maker with the vendor that already runs municipal control rooms shortens the sales path.
Rival analysis
HL Robotics is pushing outdoor parking robots and Neubility has moved from delivery into patrol and safety-certified outdoor robots; drones and fixed AI cameras remain the cheaper alternatives.
Valuation context
No financing is attached to the MOU. Robotis' last disclosed capital event in MEKAWIRE data is a rights offering in November 2025; Robotis AI's ownership split is not disclosed.
Supply-chain implications
The robot uses Robotis' in-house platform; camera and compute suppliers are not disclosed.
Signals to watch
KPEX 2026 demo (Oct 21 to 24); municipal pilot or procurement notices; Robotis filings on Robotis AI.
Analyst view
Confidence low on near-term revenue; the logic of the channel is sound but no customer is named.
Questions you should be asking
Which city will pilot first? Will patrols be sold as a service or as hardware? How much of Robotis AI does Robotis own?
