About

Sensodrive was founded in 2003 by Norbert Sporer and Matthias Hähnle, two researchers at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) who wanted to carry space robotics know-how into industry; the concept first took shape at DLR in 2001 and the company began with three people. It is based in Wessling in Bavaria, has about 40 employees and is run by Norbert Sporer. Its first products were torque sensors and a steering wheel simulator. The main line today is the SensoJoint, a complete torque-controlled drive unit for collaborative and medical robots, sold alongside torque sensors, force-feedback systems that now carry the Sensomotive brand, and development work for robotics, medical and automotive clients. The company says its SensoJoint drives gained a TÜV Süddeutschland safety certification in March 2025, which it describes as a first for torque-controlled robot drives, and it won the Innovationspreis Bayern in October 2024. Together with DLR it has built a remotely driven all-terrain vehicle meant for relief deliveries. Its news archive covers research projects and grants but no outside equity financing, so no funding rounds are recorded.
