SOS LAB finishes ML-I, a solid-state 3D lidar powered over one Ethernet cable for parking and crowd systems

Korean lidar maker SOS LAB said on Oct 15 that it has completed development of ML-I, a fixed solid-state 3D lidar that takes power and data over a single IEEE 802.3at PoE+ Ethernet cable, built for infrastructure deployments with many sensors such as its LPGS SPOT parking-guidance and LCAS QMAP crowd-monitoring systems, Robot Newspaper (irobotnews) reported; the company release itself was not found. According to the report, the ML-I80 has an 80 x 23.3 degree field of view and up to 150 m range at 930 g, the ML-I120 offers 120 x 35 degrees and 100 m at 852 g, and both process 215,040 points per second and operate from minus 40 to 85 degrees Celsius. SOS LAB said it will show the sensor at the ITS World Congress in Gangneung from Oct 19. MEKAWIRE covered SOS LAB's August memorandum with surgical-robot maker Curexo; ML-I points the KOSDAQ-listed company's revenue push towards traffic and building infrastructure rather than robots alone.

SOS Lab teams up with chip startup Semunite to run AI on low-power NPUs inside its LiDAR products

KOSDAQ-listed LiDAR maker SOS Lab has signed a memorandum of understanding with Semunite, a fabless AI-chip startup, to combine its LiDAR sensors with Semunite's neural processing units and look for joint business in autonomous mobility, smart infrastructure and robotics, Korean trade daily Robot Newspaper reported on Oct 13, citing the company. The partners plan to explore product tie-ups, run field demonstrations, bid jointly for national R&D and government programmes and work together on new domestic and overseas business, according to the report. Semunite, founded in August 2025 per the report, is building purpose-built NPUs for voice, vision and small language models with a processing-in-memory-like design that it says covers 0.15 to 20 TOPS; SOS Lab chief executive Jung Ji-sung said LiDAR becomes far more useful once it can recognise and judge a scene on the device. No financial terms or product dates were given, and SOS Lab had not posted its own release on the MOU at the time of writing. The deal follows SOS Lab's ML-I solid-state LiDAR for parking and roadside infrastructure, which MEKAWIRE covered on Oct 15; the company's website lists more than 140 employees as of October 2026.

Curexo ships CUVIS-joint knee robots to Brazil and Paraguay and plans a Brazilian surgeon training centre

Korean medical robot maker Curexo said in a press release on Sept 29 that it supplied its CUVIS-joint knee replacement robot to Brazil and Paraguay this year and is working with local partner Energy USA to set up a training centre in Brazil for surgeons from across Latin America. The company recently hosted Brazilian orthopaedic surgeons at its Seoul headquarters to observe CUVIS-joint procedures and train on surgical planning and robot operation, and said it would present its CUVIS-spine robot at the Mexican spine surgeons' association AMCICO meeting in Cancun from Oct 11 to 16. Curexo named Mexico, Argentina and Chile as its next markets in the region. The company says its robots have been used in more than 35,000 surgeries worldwide; in August it also signed an MOU with Korean LiDAR maker SOS LAB to develop spatial-sensing technology for surgical robots. In MEKAWIRE's coverage the move puts a Korean knee robot into a segment where Zimmer Biomet on Oct 13 extended its exclusive distribution of THINK Surgical's handheld TMINI robot.
