AEON and Mujin start Kawaguchi depot where physical-AI robots build mixed store pallets
Japanese retailer AEON, its logistics arm AEON Global SCM and Tokyo robotics company Mujin said in a joint press release on Oct 29 that AEON Kawaguchi-Higashi XD in Kawaguchi, Saitama, entered full operation that day as the model center of AEON's logistics overhaul.
It is the first AEON site where the whole chain from store-by-store sorting to mixed loading runs on machines: a sequencing shuttle rack releases cases in shipping order, a palletizing robot plans each load in simulation, checks the stack with 3D vision and corrects its motions when cases shift or a stack collapses, while a depalletizing robot, AGVs with digital picking and a jointly developed warehouse execution system (WES) coordinate equipment and staff.
No throughput or headcount figures were given. NHK reported that AEON aims to automate most work in its distribution centers by fiscal 2030, a target the release does not state. MEKAWIRE context: the site extends the partnership the two companies announced in October 2023 after the AEON Fukuoka XD center of July 2024, and it is the kind of reference deployment Mujin needs after its Series D first close of JPY 36.4 billion (about USD 233 million) in December 2025.
