AL Robot, a Bucheon company that makes torque sensors and six-axis force/torque sensors for robots, is heading for KOSDAQ with a primary offering of 2.4 million new shares, according to its amended securities registration statement filed on DART on Oct 12. At the KRW 15,700 per share used in the filing, the offering raises KRW 37.68 billion; the final price will be set with lead manager Daishin Securities after institutional book-building, which Etoday reported runs from Oct 28 to Nov 3.

Where the money goes

The filing assigns KRW 13.48 billion to facilities, including the robot force/torque sensor business, KRW 23.93 billion to operating funds and KRW 1.27 billion to offering costs. Daishin underwrites the whole issue on a firm-commitment basis. Public subscription runs Nov 6 to 9 and payment is due Nov 11. No existing shareholder is selling.

What AL Robot makes

On its website AL Robot describes itself as a supplier of torque and six-axis force/torque sensors for robotics, manufacturing, medical, research, aerospace and sports-science users. In July it was accredited by KOLAS, the Korean accreditation body under the standards agency, as a torque calibration laboratory, which lets it issue internationally recognised calibration certificates. Its chief executive told Edaily that the company supplies force/torque sensors in volume to a Japanese robot maker; the filing summary we read does not name customers.

Why it matters

Force/torque sensing is what lets a robot arm or hand control contact rather than only position, and it sits in the wrists of collaborative robots and humanoids. AL Robot is the third Korean robotics component or system listing MEKAWIRE has tracked this month, after Intellivix and LG's motor spin-off C&M.
