Korean chip design house Gaonchips said on Oct 15 that it has joined Arm Total Design for Physical AI, Arm's partner programme for jointly developing and validating full-stack hardware and software for robots and autonomous vehicles, and that it is the first Korean design solution partner to do so, The Elec reported; the company release itself was not found.

According to the report, Gaonchips, an Arm-approved design partner, will support Arm-based physical-AI chips from silicon to system, from turnkey design and physical implementation through to finished products, drawing on large AI chip work on Samsung Foundry's 2 nm process, automotive chip production and earlier 8 nm and 4 nm designs.

Vice President Woo Jung-ho said the company wants to cut customers' development risk and time to market. The move ties into a pattern MEKAWIRE has tracked this month, with DeepX launching its DX-M1M NPU module and Korea's physical-AI alliances pulling chip firms into robotics, as robot makers look for local silicon rather than relying only on NVIDIA Jetson modules.

Good or bad news for the company?
