Hyundai Motor Group said in a press release on Oct 30 that a consortium of Hyundai Motor, Hyundai Wia and Hyundai Engineering & Construction demonstrated its parking robots on Oct 29 at the Hillstate The Wave City apartment complex in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province.

The group called it the first trial in Korea to run parking robots in a residential car park of more than 50 spaces; it operates under the smart-city regulatory sandbox. Three scenarios were shown: entry and exit requests arriving at the same time, clearing double-parked cars, and a temporary exit in which a car is brought out and then returned to its bay.

A resident who ordered a car from the apartment's wall pad had it moved to the pickup zone in about three minutes. The robots are linked to the complex's gate barriers, the wall pads and an AI vehicle inspection system, and the group's parking control software, now at version 2.0, can dispatch up to 200 robots at once.

The release gave no fleet size, cost or commercial launch date; the group said it will study transport hubs, commercial and office buildings and discuss rule changes with the authorities. MEKAWIRE context: this is the third Korean parking-robot deployment we have covered this month, after HL Robotics' outdoor STAN at the ITS World Congress (Oct 16) and Korea Airports Corporation's Gimpo valet trial of up to 75 cars a day (Oct 27); Korea Airports Corporation was among the agencies at the Siheung demonstration.

Hyundai Wia builds the group's parking robots.

Good or bad news for the company?
