Q3 2026 robotics earnings scorecard: installed bases profit, humanoid bets burn cash
MEKAWIRE's Q3 2026 robotics earnings scorecard, built only from filings released Oct 20 to 29, shows a split. Companies selling into large installed bases turned growth into profit: Intuitive revenue rose 22% to $3.05bn on 546 da Vinci placements, FANUC operating income rose 45.1%, and Teradyne Robotics reached profitability on $96m of sales.
Humanoid-era bets paid for R&D with margin: Unitree revenue rose 69.9% but profit fell 17.4% as R&D jumped 250%, AgiBot-controlled Swancor lost RMB 255.4m with no robot revenue yet, Doosan Robotics' operating loss reached 82.9% of sales, and Tesla started Optimus production without a unit count. The table will be updated as Symbotic, Cognex and others report.
Q3 2026 robotics results split the industry in two. Companies that sell into a large installed base turned growth into profit, while companies betting on humanoids and new platforms paid for research with margin. That is the reading of MEKAWIRE's scorecard, built only from the filings and results releases published between Oct 20 and Oct 29, 2026, with every figure linked to its document.
The question for investors is whether the second group is early or simply expensive. The filings answer part of it, and the numbers below show where.

As of Oct 30, 2026
Intuitive Surgical reported revenue of $3,048.7 million for the quarter, up 22% from $2,505.1 million, in an earnings release filed with the SEC on Oct 20. It placed 546 da Vinci systems, 315 of them da Vinci 5, against 427 a year earlier, and its installed base reached 12,094 systems. GAAP net income was $523 million after a $450 million pre-tax antitrust settlement charge.
FANUC said on Oct 23 that July to September sales rose 14.9% to ¥242.7 billion and operating income rose 45.1% to ¥63.2 billion, a 26.0% margin, and it lifted its full-year sales forecast to ¥1,013.7 billion, its first year above ¥1 trillion. Teradyne said in its Oct 28 filing that its robotics segment, Universal Robots and MiR, posted $96 million of revenue and achieved profitability, without giving the amount.
The other column looks different. Tesla's Q3 update of Oct 21 said the first production-quality Optimus robots were built and that Fremont is in early ramp, but it gave no count, rate, customer or price, while GAAP net income fell 43% to $787 million and R&D rose 69% to $2,761 million. Unitree, in its first report as a listed company, posted revenue of RMB 665.0 million, up 69.9%, but attributable net profit fell 17.4% to RMB 112.7 million as quarterly R&D rose 249.6% to RMB 127.0 million. Swancor, the Shanghai-listed company AgiBot controls, lost RMB 255.4 million in the quarter; its filings show RMB 359.6 million of robot R&D in nine months and no robot revenue yet. Doosan Robotics told DART on Oct 29 that sales fell 8.5% on the quarter to KRW 16.175 billion and its operating loss of KRW 13.404 billion equalled 82.9% of revenue.
Which of these lines say something about robots, rather than about cars or chips? That needs a second table.

As of Oct 30, 2026
Three derived numbers matter most. Teradyne Robotics' nine-month revenue of $287.2 million is 93% of its full-year 2025 figure of $308.3 million, so the segment is on course to grow for the year even though Q3 slipped 3.9% from Q2. FANUC's robot orders rose 12.6% to ¥103.4 billion, but their share of group orders fell from 44.7% to 33.8% because CNC orders grew far faster; FANUC's robot sales in China fell 14.3% on the year. Unitree's nine-month gross margin, by our calculation from its filing, was 54.0% against 59.7% a year earlier, a fall that came before the R&D jump hit the income statement.
Method: figures are as filed; changes are year on year unless marked; derived ratios (share of orders, margin, share of prior-year revenue) are MEKAWIRE calculations from the same filing, stated in each linked story. Currency is the reporting currency; no conversions.
MEKAWIRE analysis
Q3 shows that robotics profit still comes from installed bases and recurring use, not from new robot categories; humanoids are being financed by parents and capital markets, not by customers.
The evidence is in the mix. Intuitive's growth came from procedures on 12,094 systems, FANUC's from orders for machines factories already know, and Teradyne's robotics profit from cobots that sell through distributors. On the other side, none of Tesla, Swancor or Doosan disclosed humanoid unit revenue, and Unitree, the one profitable humanoid maker in the set, chose to spend its post-IPO cash on R&D rather than margin.
The strongest counter-argument is timing. Unitree's revenue grew 69.9% and its cash rose to RMB 7.35 billion, and Samsung SDI said it shipped solid-state battery samples for humanoids, so the supply chain is moving ahead of the reported revenue. A second caution: FANUC's China robot sales fell, so the installed-base story is not uniform by region.
Bull case: humanoid makers convert pilots into named orders in Q4 and Unitree's gross margin stabilises. Bear case: R&D keeps rising while robot revenue stays undisclosed, and parents such as Swancor need more shareholder loans.
What would change our view: a unit or revenue figure for Optimus, a Swancor quarter with robot revenue, or a FANUC quarter in which robot orders regain share.
What to watch next
Cognex reports Q3 on Nov 4 after its RealSense purchase, and Symbotic reports fiscal Q4 in mid-November. This scorecard will be updated at the same address as new filings land.
- Jul to Sep sales ¥242.7bn, +14.9%; operating income +45.1%
- Results released Oct 20 to 29, 2026; filings and results releases only
- Optimus in early ramp at Fremont; no units disclosed
- Revenue RMB 665.0m, +69.9%; net profit -17.4%; R&D +249.6%
- Revenue $3,048.7m, +22%; 546 da Vinci placements
- Revenue KRW 16.175bn, -8.5% QoQ; operating loss 82.9% of sales
- Q3 net loss RMB 255.4m; no robot revenue yet
- $96m revenue, profitable; 9M = 93% of FY2025
Why it matters
This is the first quarter in which several humanoid-era companies (Unitree, Swancor for AgiBot, Tesla for Optimus) reported alongside the established robot makers, which lets investors compare them on the same filings rather than on announcements.
Rival analysis
Among established makers, Intuitive and FANUC grew profit faster than revenue; Teradyne Robotics crossed into profit while revenue dipped on the quarter. Among new entrants, Unitree is the only profitable one and its profit fell; Doosan Robotics' loss ratio rose for the third straight quarter.
Valuation context
No valuations are derived here. Readers comparing multiples should note that Unitree's cash rose to RMB 7.35 billion after its listing, and Swancor relies on a RMB 450 million shareholder loan at 1.7%.
Supply-chain implications
Samsung SDI shipped solid-state battery samples for humanoids and LG Electronics prepared actuator mass production, both in Q3 reports, so component suppliers are preparing for volumes that the robot makers have not yet disclosed.
Signals to watch
Cognex Q3 on Nov 4; Symbotic fiscal Q4 in mid-November; any Optimus unit disclosure; Swancor's first robot revenue line.
Analyst view
Thesis: robotics profit still comes from installed bases. Confidence medium: the humanoid sample is small and only one quarter deep.
Questions you should be asking
When will Tesla disclose an Optimus count? What share of Unitree's revenue is humanoids? Will FANUC's robot orders regain share from CNC?
