About

Attabotics is based in Calgary, Alberta, and was founded by Scott Gravelle, who was chief executive during its funding rounds. Its fulfillment system, modelled on the way ant colonies move, uses robotic shuttles that travel in three dimensions through a vertical storage structure instead of aisles and conveyors, and the company said it could cut warehouse footprint by up to 85 percent. On 18 August 2020 it announced a $50 million Series C led by Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board with existing investor Honeywell, bringing total funding to $82.7 million. On 15 November 2022 it announced $71.7 million in Series C-1 funding led by Export Development Canada with Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board through Teachers' Venture Growth, for a total of $165.1 million, and named customers including Pan Pacific Pet, Modern Beauty Supplies and the US Department of Defense. The Attabotics website now describes the business as part of LaFayette Systems, a family-owned material handling and warehouse automation company, with engineering, business and manufacturing still in the original Calgary facility.
