Capstan Medical
Santa Cruz developer of heart valve implants delivered through a robotic catheter system instead of open heart surgery.
Capstan Medical was founded in 2020 in Santa Cruz, California, and is led by chief executive Maggie Nixon, with co-founder Dan Wallace as chief technology officer. It develops implants for mitral and tricuspid valve disease that are placed through a small incision in the groin by a catheter based robotic delivery system, aiming to spare patients open heart surgery. On August 9, 2023 it announced an oversubscribed $31.4 million Series B led by Eclipse, with Intuitive Ventures and Puma Venture Capital participating. On December 11, 2024 it announced the closing of an oversubscribed $110 million Series C, again led by Eclipse, with Yu Galaxy, Intuitive Ventures and Gideon Strategic Partners. The company said it then had more than 75 employees and would use the money for clinical and development work leading to pivotal trials. In March 2025 it reported what it called the first robotic catheter mitral valve replacements in patients.
