Contoro Robotics
Austin company whose AI robots, backed by remote human operators, unload floor-loaded boxes from trailers and shipping containers on a pay-per-container basis.
Contoro Robotics is based in Austin, Texas, and builds robots that unload loose, floor-loaded boxes from truck trailers and shipping containers. Its system pairs AI with a human-in-the-loop model, in which remote operators step in when the software is unsure, and the company says this gives success rates above 99% on mixed-SKU trailers. A two-point gripper it calls Duo-Grasp lets the robots handle a wide range of box sizes and weights. Contoro sells the service per container unloaded, so customers do not have to buy the robots up front. Its first funding was a $1.3 million pre-seed round led by Village Global, which the company disclosed without a date. On 28 June 2023 it announced a $4.7 million seed round led by SV Investment, with Kakao Ventures, Bass Investment, Future Play and the UT Austin Seed Fund taking part, which took its total funding to $6 million. On 25 March 2025 it announced a $12 million Series A that brought in Doosan, Coupang, the Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund and IMM as new investors, alongside existing backers SV Investment, KB Investment, Kakao Ventures and Future Play. The release named no lead investor and put total funding at $22 million. Contoro said it would use the Series A to grow its fleet of unloading robots, enter new logistics markets and launch an AI palletizing system.
