Distalmotion
Lausanne-based maker of the Dexter on-demand robotic surgery system, targeting hospital outpatient departments and US ambulatory surgery centers.
Distalmotion was founded in 2012 as a spin-off from the robotics lab of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). It is headquartered in Lausanne, with offices at Epalinges, and has a US office in Cleveland, Ohio. Its Dexter robot is presented as an on-demand robotic surgery system that lets surgeons switch between robotic and laparoscopic techniques, and the company is pushing it into hospital outpatient departments and ambulatory surgery centers. By November 2025 nearly 3,000 patients had been treated with Dexter in Europe and the US. Greg Roche is chief executive and Chas McKhann was named executive chairman in November 2025. In April 2023 Distalmotion announced a $150 million Series F led by Revival Healthcare Capital to support US FDA approval and market entry. In November 2025 it raised a further $150 million Series G, again led by Revival Healthcare Capital with participation from inside investors, to expand in the US with a focus on ambulatory surgery centers. In January 2026 it announced a strategic investment of undisclosed size from Johnson & Johnson Innovation (JJDC).
