The IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) will be held at Coex in Seoul from May 24 to 28, 2027, its first return to the city in 26 years, and the organisers expect more than 8,500 participants, according to the partnership and exhibition prospectus posted on the conference website.

Partner packages run from KRW 10 million (Bronze) to KRW 200 million (Diamond), a standard 3m by 3m booth costs KRW 5 million until Jan 15, 2027, and companies incorporated on or after Jan 1, 2025 can take a KRW 3 million start-up booth; exhibition applications open on Nov 3.

By MEKAWIRE's count of the prospectus figures, China supplied 69 of the 202 exhibitors at ICRA 2026 in Vienna, 34.2%, and South Korea 7, or 3.5%.

The IEEE Robotics and Automation Society's flagship conference is coming back to Seoul, and the price of being seen there is now public. The 2027 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) will run from May 24 to 28, 2027 at Coex in Gangnam, the organisers say on the official conference website, and the partnership and exhibition prospectus posted there prices visibility from KRW 3 million for a start-up booth to KRW 200 million for the top Diamond package.

It is the conference's first return to the city in 26 years, General Chair Kyu-Jin Cho of Seoul National University, who is also President-Elect of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS), writes in the prospectus. The organisers expect more than 8,500 participants under the theme "Forging an Ecosystem of Innovation: Building a Collaborative Robotics Community". The same document carries a number that matters more to Korean companies than the price list: at ICRA 2026 in Vienna, Chinese exhibitors outnumbered Korean ones almost ten to one.

Six partner tiers, and the top one buys 12 booths

The prospectus lists six partner levels. Diamond costs KRW 200 million and includes 12 booths of 3m by 3m, 15 full conference registrations and a 60-second video before plenary and keynote sessions. Platinum, at KRW 100 million, carries 10 booths and 10 registrations; Titanium, at KRW 80 million, 6 booths and 8 registrations; Gold, at KRW 50 million, 4 booths; Silver, at KRW 30 million, 2 booths; Bronze, at KRW 10 million, 1 booth and 2 registrations. Only U.S.-headquartered companies may pay in dollars, at the won equivalent on the transfer date; the document converts at KRW 1,327 per dollar as of Oct 20, 2026, which puts Diamond at $150,716 and Bronze at $7,536.

Prices and benefits from the organisers' prospectus; USD at KRW 1,327 per dollar (Oct 20, 2026). Last column = tier price / included booths, ignoring other benefits (MEKAWIRE calculation).

As of Oct 21, 2026

Divided by the booths each tier includes, Diamond is the most expensive floor space at about KRW 16.7 million per booth, while Platinum and Bronze both work out at KRW 10 million, by MEKAWIRE's calculation. The difference buys stage time and branding rather than square metres. Extras sit on top: a 20-minute industry keynote on the Tuesday or Wednesday costs KRW 50 million, with content the committee must pre-approve to limit commercial promotion, and the exclusive attendee T-shirt costs KRW 150 million, according to the prospectus.

Seven of the ten are Korean companies, Korean subsidiaries or Korean institutes. That is already the full size of Korea's exhibitor presence in Vienna, before the general exhibition has opened.

The Vienna floor: China 69, Korea 7

The prospectus charts ICRA 2026 exhibitors by country but prints no total. Adding the 25 countries and regions it lists gives 202, and the percentages it prints match that base. China had 69 exhibitors (34.2%), the United States 21 (10.4%), Germany 20 (9.9%) and host Austria 19 (9.4%). South Korea had 7 (3.5%) and Japan 3 (1.5%). Counting Hong Kong's 3 with the mainland lifts the Chinese share to 35.6%; the 15 European countries together had 90 exhibitors, 44.6%.

Austria's fourth place shows what hosting does: the home country fills booths that its companies would not travel for. ICRA 2026 was also where Amazon's team [won the top paper award for OmniRetarget](/news/omniretarget-icra-2026-best-conference-paper-20260604), a reminder that the exhibitors are selling to the people who write the field's most cited work.

What a Korean start-up pays, and by when

Booths are rented in 3m by 3m units. A standard booth costs KRW 5 million (about $3,768) if booked before Jan 15, 2027 and KRW 6 million afterwards, 20% more; one extra booth may be bought, up to 18 square metres in total. The start-up booth costs KRW 3 million, 40% below the early standard rate, and is open only to companies incorporated on or after Jan 1, 2025, one per company, with shell scheme and two exhibitor passes included. Booths are allocated by sponsorship tier, then by payment date, then by application order.

Exhibition applications open on Nov 3, 2026, 13 days from now, and close on Feb 24, 2027. Half the amount is due within 30 days of the invoice and no later than Jan 15, 2027; the balance is due on Feb 26. A cancellation accepted before Jan 15 is refunded in full, one between Jan 15 and Feb 26 loses 50%, and after that the organiser keeps everything. The exhibit hall is open from May 24 to 27.

MEKAWIRE analysis

A home ICRA gives Korean robot makers their cheapest chance in years to change who the field's researchers see on the floor, but the Vienna count shows Chinese companies arrive in volume, and the allocation rules reward money paid early, not nationality.

The evidence is in the prospectus itself. China outnumbered Korea 69 to 7 in Vienna, 9.9 times, while the 2026 host Austria placed fourth with 19. Korean partners have moved first: seven of the ten confirmed partners are Korean, and Holiday Robotics, which raised a $105 million Series A in July, took the only Platinum slot. At home, the market these companies sell into installs about 30,000 industrial robots a year, as MEKAWIRE's [Korea market explainer](/news/korea-robotics-market-2026-explained-30000-robot-installations-highest-robot-density-state-led-humanoid-push-20261017) shows, and Daegu's [FIX 2026 fair](/news/fix-2026-daegu-588-exhibitors-overseas-share-28-percent-robex-kiria-humanoids-startups-oct-21-20261019) opens today with 588 exhibitors.

The strongest counter-argument is that ICRA is a research meeting, not a trade fair. Companies exhibit there to recruit engineers and meet labs, so booth counts measure hiring budgets more than market strength, and Chinese numbers partly reflect how many robotics start-ups China has.

The start-up rule cuts both ways. The KRW 3 million booth reaches only firms incorporated from 2025; a company such as Holiday Robotics, founded in 2024 by our records, pays the standard rate unless it sponsors.

Bull case: home advantage and cheap start-up booths take Korea well past its Vienna count, and Korean firms hold the aisles near the entrance by paying early. Bear case: Chinese companies, two of which already hold Gold or Bronze slots, book early again and the floor in Seoul looks like the one in Vienna.

Signals to watch: the exhibition application opening on Nov 3, 2026; the Jan 15, 2027 early-booth and deposit deadline; and the Feb 24 application close, after which the exhibitor list shows the country mix.

The first hard number will come after Jan 15, when the early rate ends and deposits decide who stands where.

    Why it matters

ICRA is the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society's flagship meeting and the place where the field's researchers, many of them future hires, see which companies matter. Hosting it in Seoul in May 2027 hands Korean robot makers a home floor at a time when the prospectus's own Vienna data show them outnumbered 69 to 7 by Chinese exhibitors. The published price list makes the cost of closing that gap explicit: from KRW 3 million for an eligible start-up to KRW 200 million for the top package.

For investors, the exhibitor list that emerges after the Feb 24, 2027 deadline is a cheap, public signal of which companies are spending on recruiting and research visibility.

  2. 02

    Rival analysis

The confirmed partners split into three groups. Korean humanoid and cobot makers (Holiday Robotics, AeiROBOT, ROBROS, Neuromeka) and Korean picking specialist CMES Robotics buy visibility with research talent; KIRO and maxon motor Korea represent the institute and component layer. On the Chinese side TARS, the 2025 Shanghai start-up with a $120 million angel round in our records, took a Gold slot, and Ningbo Boden AI Technology a Bronze one.

In Vienna, Chinese exhibitors (69) outnumbered the United States (21) and Germany (20) combined. The question for Seoul is whether Chinese firms send the same volume to a Korean venue; the prospectus gives no forecast.

  3. 03

    Valuation context

No valuations are involved. As a spending benchmark, the ten confirmed partners' list prices total KRW 310 million, about $233,610 at the prospectus rate, or about 0.2% of the $105 million Series A that Holiday Robotics announced in July 2026. For an eligible Korean start-up, the KRW 3 million booth (about $2,261) is small next to a seed round; the larger saving of a home venue is travel and freight for staff and demo hardware.

  4. 04

    Supply-chain implications

The component layer is already on the list: drive maker maxon motor Korea is a Bronze partner, next to Korean humanoid, cobot and picking companies that buy motors, reducers and sensors. A home venue lets Korean component and actuator suppliers show hardware to lab buyers without shipping it abroad. The prospectus asks exhibitors to submit robot weights in advance for booth demos, and each standard booth comes with one 220V, 1kW socket, which limits what heavy industrial arms can run on a shell-scheme stand.

  5. 05

    Signals to watch

Nov 3, 2026: exhibition application system opens. Jan 15, 2027: early booth price and 50% deposit deadline; full refunds end. Feb 24, 2027: partnership and exhibition applications close. Feb 26, 2027: balance due. Early February 2027: registration opens, according to the conference website. May 24 to 28, 2027: the conference at Coex.

  6. 06

    Analyst view

Thesis: a home ICRA is Korea's cheapest chance in years to change the exhibit floor, but allocation rewards early payment and volume. Confidence: medium. The partner list already tilts Korean, which supports the thesis; the missing piece is the general exhibitor count, which will not be visible before the Feb 24 deadline. A Diamond or Titanium sign-up by a Korean conglomerate would strengthen it; a Chinese Diamond partner would weaken it.

  7. 07

    Questions you should be asking

How many start-up booths are available, and is there a cap? Will the organisers publish exhibitor counts by country before the conference? Do Korean government programmes plan to subsidise booths for domestic start-ups, as some regional fairs do? Will any Korean conglomerate take a Diamond or Titanium package?
