Kawasaki's Kaleido9 humanoid lifts 22.7 kg using a six-week Matsuo RL policy
Matsuo Institute said in a press release dated Oct 13 that it and Kawasaki Heavy Industries trained a reinforcement-learning control policy for Kawasaki's Kaleido9 humanoid in NVIDIA's simulator and moved it onto the real robot, finishing the whole sim-to-real pipeline about six weeks after the project began.
With the policy, Kaleido9 picked up baskets weighing about 50 pounds (22.7 kg) in total with both hands and set them on a table, a demonstration first tested at Kawasaki's KAWARUBA site at Haneda and then shown at the opening of the Kawasaki Physical AI Center San Jose on May 21, 2026.
The two said they will apply the work first to a hospital one-stop service covering arrival, examination, treatment, surgery and aftercare, then to semiconductors, automotive, manufacturing, logistics and construction.
MEKAWIRE covered that San Jose opening on May 22, when Kawasaki named NVIDIA, Microsoft, Analog Devices and Fujitsu as partners, and on Oct 6 reported Kawasaki's Home LEO home-care robot, targeted for fiscal 2028.
