About

Hello Robot was founded in 2017 by Aaron Edsinger, its chief executive, and Charlie Kemp and is based in Martinez, California. It makes Stretch, a mobile manipulator that pairs a compact wheeled base with a telescoping arm for use in homes, care settings and research labs, and it is developing the robot as an assistant for older adults. On 9 January 2023 it announced a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research grant of $2,537,474 from the National Institute on Aging, part of the National Institutes of Health, with a University of Illinois team led by Wendy Rogers, to develop the Stretch Cognitive and Physical Assistant for older adults with cognitive and physical impairments. On 29 September 2026 it announced a Phase IIB SBIR grant of nearly $3 million over three years from the same institute, with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, running from 22 September 2026 to May 2029 and focused on older adults with mild cognitive impairment and early Alzheimer's dementia.
