Simbe Robotics
San Francisco maker of Tally, an autonomous robot that scans store shelves, and of an AI platform that turns its images into inventory and pricing insight for grocers and other retailers.
Simbe Robotics, Inc. was founded in 2014 and is based in San Francisco. Its Tally robot travels store aisles on its own and photographs the shelves, and the company's Store Intelligence platform uses AI to turn those images into real-time insight into inventory, pricing and store operations. Retail customers named by the company include SpartanNash, Wakefern Food Corp. (ShopRite), Northeast Grocery, Albertsons Companies, CarrefourSA, BJ's Wholesale Club and Schnuck Markets. On 12 September 2019 it announced a $26 million Series A led by Venrock, with Future Shape, Valo Ventures and Activant Capital taking part. In the same announcement it said SoftBank Robotics would provide inventory financing to help build 1,000 more Tally units over two years, without giving a figure for that financing. On 13 July 2023 it announced a $28 million Series B led by Eclipse, which brought its total raised to $54 million. At that point it said it served 12 of the 250 largest retailers in the world and had processed more than 12 billion shelf photos over the previous 12 months. On 24 October 2024 it announced a $50 million Series C led by Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives, with Eclipse, Valo Ventures and other existing backers investing, which lifted its total funding to more than $100 million. Simbe said the Series C would help it meet demand from retailers, move into new product areas, scale globally and keep growing a team that had doubled in size over the previous year.
