LG CNS says its PhysicalWorks platform trains LG Electronics robots; robot unit to accelerate after 2027
LG CNS, LG Group's IT services company, told analysts on its third-quarter earnings call on Oct 30 that its robot training and operations platform PhysicalWorks has been installed in LG Electronics' robot data factory, where it pre-trains LG Electronics robots on multiple skills and the two companies are developing robot services together, according to Newspim, Newsis and ZDNet Korea.
Lee Jun-ho, head of its smart logistics and city unit, said the company wants PhysicalWorks to become the group's standard platform for training and running physical AI at plants in Korea and abroad, and expects its robot business to grow sharply after 2027; no robot revenue figure was given.
The company's DART filing shows consolidated Q3 revenue of KRW 1.66 trillion (+9.3%) and operating profit of KRW 138.2 billion (+15.0%); the smart engineering segment that houses robotics fell 3.9% to KRW 294.5 billion, the outlets reported.
MEKAWIRE context: LG Electronics said on its own call on Oct 28 that it is building a robot data factory with NVIDIA and plans to collect 500,000 hours of data; LG CNS is now its software supplier inside the group.
On the same day, Hyundai AutoEver committed KRW 114.6 billion to a GPU company for Hyundai's robot and driving AI, so both chaebol IT units are becoming compute and training providers for their groups' robots. LG CNS is a new MEKAWIRE company profile.
