Hurotics, the Korean maker of soft wearable walking robots, has hired Choi Il-bum as chief operating officer and head of management planning, the company said on Oct 19, according to a report by Korean trade outlet Robot Newspaper (irobotnews); Hurotics has not posted a release on its own site.

Choi, who holds a mechanical engineering doctorate from KAIST, was a senior researcher at the Agency for Defense Development and later COO of battery maker Standard Energy, where the report credits him with helping raise about KRW 120 billion across Series B and C rounds.

He started on Oct 1 and will handle governance, the next funding round, budgeting and the standards and certification work needed to sell into medical and rehabilitation markets at home and abroad, joining CTO Han Seung-hoon and CMO Kim Dong-su.

The hire follows the KRW 25 billion Series A led by Atinum Investment that MEKAWIRE reported on Oct 15, which Hurotics said would fund its move overseas.

Good or bad news for the company?
