Re:Build, the Framingham, Massachusetts group that designs and manufactures hardware for other companies, said in a press release on Oct 27 that it secured USD 2.1bn in new funding led by General Catalyst and JPMorganChase's Strategic Investment Group.

Robotics and automation is one of its five verticals; the release gives no valuation, round type or split by vertical.

Re:Build, a Massachusetts group that designs and manufactures hardware for other companies, said in a press release on Oct 27 that it has secured USD 2.1bn in new funding. General Catalyst and the Strategic Investment Group of JPMorganChase, which runs the bank's direct equity investing for its Security and Resiliency Initiative, led the financing. The release does not give a valuation, a round type or the names of other investors.

Robotics is one of five lines, and the split is not disclosed

Re:Build says the money will expand its manufacturing platform and its incubation of new industrial companies across aerospace and defence, electrification, medical, energy and environment, and robotics and automation. On its robotics page the company describes work that runs from concept studies and control-system design (PLC, SCADA and HMI) through pilot builds to full-volume manufacture of robotic systems and material-handling equipment under ISO 9001. The release puts the group at more than 2,100 US employees and more than 2.4 million square feet of manufacturing space, and says its founding team has raised over USD 4bn to date. Founded in 2020, it is led by co-founders Jeff Wilke, Miles Arnone, the chief executive, and William Barker. Its newsroom also lists an Oct 6 announcement that tripled its footprint in Rock Hill, South Carolina, with a 130,000 square foot plant.

Source: Re:Build press release (Oct 27, 2026); other rows from the MEKAWIRE funding database, disclosed rounds only. Re:Build is not counted in MEKAWIRE robotics funding totals because robotics is one of its five verticals.

As of Oct 31, 2026

By MEKAWIRE's count the USD 2.1bn is larger than any single robotics round in our 2026 database and above the USD 1.63bn our data desk counted across all robotics rounds from Oct 19 to 28. We have not added it to our robotics funding totals, because robotics is one of five verticals and the company does not say how much of the money goes there. Per employee, the raise works out to about USD 1m (USD 2.1bn divided by 2,100 staff).

MEKAWIRE analysis

The capital goes to the layer between a robot design and a US production line, and that layer gains value if Washington makes imported machinery more expensive.

The timing lines up with the White House Section 232 proclamation of Oct 28, which found that imports of robotics and industrial machinery threaten national security and opened 180 days of negotiations before any tariff (our explainer). If tariffs follow, robot start-ups that build abroad or rely on imported arms and controls would need domestic design-for-manufacturing partners, which is the service Re:Build sells. The strongest counter-argument sits in the release itself: the products it names are unmanned aircraft and batteries, and robotics may receive only a small share. The signal to watch is a named robotics customer or a robotics company from its incubator before the Section 232 report falls due around Apr 26, 2027. Company page: Re:Build.
