Built Robotics
San Francisco company that turns excavators and other construction machines into autonomous robots, now focused on solar farm construction.
Built Robotics was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in San Francisco; Noah Ready-Campbell is its chief executive. Its Exosystem upgrade kit, fitted in under a day, converts standard excavators into autonomous trenching robots using GPS, cameras, lidar and its own software, and contractors pay an hourly software fee. On 14 March 2023 it introduced the RPD 35, an autonomous piling system for utility-scale solar foundations, and the company now says it concentrates on automating repetitive work in solar construction. In September 2025 it announced a three-year contract under which Blattner will deploy dozens of its robots on US solar projects for pile driving, surveying, material handling, drilling and trenching. On 19 September 2019 it announced a $33 million Series B led by Next47, the Siemens-backed venture fund, with Building Ventures and existing backers Founders Fund, NEA, Lemnos and Presidio Ventures, taking total funding to $48 million. On 7 April 2022 it announced a $64 million Series C led by Tiger Global, joined by existing investors NEA, Founders Fund, Fifth Wall and Building Ventures, bringing total funding to $112 million.
