Multiply Labs raises $75 million led by Patrick Soon-Shiong to scale robots that make cell and gene therapies

Multiply Labs said in a press release on Oct 6 that it raised a $75 million Series B led by Patrick Soon-Shiong, with AstraZeneca, Lingotto, Teradyne and Strange Ventures joining as new investors. The San Francisco company, which automates GMP manufacturing of cell and gene therapies, said total funding now exceeds $100 million and the money goes to manufacturing capacity, product work and engineering, regulatory and commercial hiring.
Multiply Labs said in a press release on Business Wire on Oct 6 that it closed a $75 million Series B led by Patrick Soon-Shiong. New investors are AstraZeneca, Lingotto, Teradyne and Strange Ventures; Casdin Capital, Lux Capital, Fifty Years, Ora Global and Founders Fund returned, among others. The company said it has raised more than $100 million since it was founded in 2016. No valuation was disclosed.
The company builds robotic systems that take over manual steps in making cell and gene therapies, which are still largely produced by technicians working in clean rooms. It is extending the platform to antibodies, viral vectors and mRNA. Its systems are owned and run by the drug makers themselves rather than offered as contract manufacturing. Multiply Labs said the funding will expand manufacturing capacity, advance its product roadmap and grow its engineering, regulatory and commercial teams as it moves toward commercial-scale production.

MEKAWIRE analysis
The investor list says more than the amount: a drug maker (AstraZeneca) and a robot maker (Teradyne) in the same round suggests pharma is treating robotic GMP production as an equipment purchase, not a research project.
In MEKAWIRE's database the round is the sixth-largest of 12 robotics Series B rounds with a disclosed amount in 2026, behind Sereact's $110 million and ahead of Mecka's $60 million. Teradyne, whose robotics unit grew 33% to $100 million in the second quarter according to MEKAWIRE's coverage, is now an investor in a customer segment far from its cobot business. The open question is regulatory: every new site and product a pharma customer automates must be validated under GMP rules, which can slow revenue regardless of how much capital is raised.
Signals to watch: a named commercial-scale customer, any FDA approval of a therapy made on Multiply Labs systems, and whether AstraZeneca moves from investor to disclosed user.
