VIGOR-MPC: Vision-Guided Objective Regulation MPC

Jelena Trisovic, Rahel Rickenbach, Marek Landert, Panagiotis Minos, Melanie N. Zeilinger

Controlling an agent in an environment solely perceived through onboard vision is challenging: perception yields noisy, variable-length, and partially occluded context, while onboard compute is shared between perception and control, limiting the planning horizon executable in real time. We propose VIGOR-MPC, a modular student-teacher framework, agnostic to the perception pipeline, which addresses reference tracking across navigation tasks by distilling a privileged, field-of-view-aware long-horizon MPC into a computationally lightweight short-horizon MPC whose cost parameters are determined online from vision.

GS-PRM: Gaussian Visual Roadmap for Image-Goal Navigation

Ashraf Siddique, Kyung Min Han, Young J. Kim

Image-goal navigation requires a global planner that connects visually specified endpoints while providing observations that a local policy can follow. Three-dimensional Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) provides map-registered RGB, opacity, and depth renderings, but does not explicitly encode navigable topology.

HM3D-M3: A Benchmark for Multi-Agent, Multi-Modal, Multi-Object Goal Navigation

Hongyu Ding, Kanyu Xu, Mingjia Chen, Zixuan Chen, Jieqi Shi, Jing Huo, Yifan Zhang, Yang Gao

Rapid progress in AI agents and robotics makes it a matter of the near future that humans are served by a team of robots. Such a team will receive several goals at once, each specified in whatever form is convenient for the human, such as a category name, a photo, or a spoken description.

Smart Fusion for Adaptive Visual-IMU Weighting in cuVSLAM Sparse Bundle Adjustment

Wonju Lee, Dara Molloy, Abhilash Nand Kumar, Onias Castelo, Petar Trslic, David Adley, Conor Ferguson, Hesam Rabeti

In cuVSLAM, visual and inertial measurement unit (IMU) residuals are fused in sparse bundle adjustment (SBA) with a weighting fixed by pre-calibrated noise covariances, leaving no mechanism to adapt the visual-inertial balance at runtime. We introduce a scalar α≥1 that upscales the visual information matrix relative to the IMU preintegration constraint.

Towards Certifiable State Estimation under Observability Degeneracy

Baoshan Song

Certifiable optimization provides global optimality guarantees for non-convex state estimation in robotics. However, under severe physical sensing degeneracy, convex Semidefinite Programming relaxations solved via Interior-Point Methods suffer from rank expansion, rendering direct semidefinite solving and spectral rounding algebraically invalid.

HyperLoop: Hyperspectral-Assisted Loop Closure Detection in 3D-SLAM for Planetary Exploration

Annie Bhalla, Dennis Rotondi, Riccardo Giubilato, Kai O. Arras, Wolfgang Stuerzl

Autonomous navigation of planetary rovers is challenged by visually repetitive, featureless terrain. SLAM systems based on 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) offer dense mapping but rely on RGB appearance descriptors that degrade under perceptual aliasing - a common failure mode in extraterrestrial environments where physically distinct locations appear visually identical.

From Failures to Learnable Worlds: Policy-Conditioned Environment Generation for Navigation Agents

Yue Zhang, Han Lin, Zun Wang, Yidong Huang, Zaid Khan, Mohit Bansal

Simulated environments enable scalable training data generation for embodied agents, but more data does not necessarily provide what a particular agent needs to learn. Existing environment-generation pipelines largely optimize generic properties such as realism, diversity, or task coverage, while different pretrained policies can fail for different environmental reasons.

S³-Nav: Structured Spatial-Semantic Decision Making for Language-Guided Robot Navigation

Chaemin Lee, Hae Min Cho

This paper presents S³-Nav, a structured spatial-semantic decision-making framework for language-guided robot navigation under partial observability. Rather than assuming a complete environment representation in advance, S³-Nav incrementally constructs persistent spatial-semantic state while exposing only a capacity-controlled, task-conditioned view to the high-level policy.

NavAble: A Large-Scale Dataset and Synthetic Data Generation Pipeline for Blind Navigation

Hochul Hwang, Jahir Sadik Monon, Soowan Yang, Shiven Umeshbhai Patel, Anh Nhat Hong Nguyen, Kien Nguyen, Keshav Garg, Dylan Gage, Duretti Hordofaa, Anshu Anjna, Eshed Ohn-Bar, Donghyun Kim

Reliable recognition of accessibility-critical objects (e.g., audible pedestrian signals, door-activation buttons, and handrails) is essential for assistive navigation technologies that support safe, independent mobility for blind and low-vision (BLV) users. Yet these categories are underrepresented in existing large-scale vision datasets, and the few datasets that include them suffer from limited class coverage, inconsistent annotations, and poor diversity.

Tiered-Resolution Volumetric Mapping for Real-Time Simultaneous Planning and Mapping on Natural Outdoor Environments

Afonso E. Carvalho, David Portugal, Paulo Peixoto, George Kantor

Real-time volumetric mapping for a planning robot is dominated by the cost of integrating and storing information at the finest resolution, yet only a small fraction of any map ever lies on or near a path the planner actually considers. We exploit this with a tiered-resolution mapping mechanism that integrates LiDAR into a single map structure at two resolutions simultaneously: fine inside a corridor around the robot's current plan, and coarse everywhere else.

Augmenting Real-time Visualization in Minimally Invasive Surgery with Particle Filtering and Depth-Aware Occlusion Handling

Anuska Sarkar, Partha Acharya, Vishnu Nandury, Kaustav Basu, Subhamoy Mandal

We present a real-time, hybrid framework for occlusion handling and depth-aware tracking in minimally invasive surgeries (MIS). Occlusions caused by surgical instruments often obscure the region of interest (ROI), affecting surgical precision.

I2O2I-Nav: A Benchmark with a Modular Agent for Long-Horizon Indoor-to-Outdoor-to-Indoor Navigation

Zhengjie Shu, Wanyu Li, Di Xiao, Lingxin Jiang, Lai Jiang, Kaidi Hu, Xincheng Tang, Wenkang Hu, Haoran Wang, Jinchuan Zhang, Chang Chen, Wei Li, Jia Pan, Ruigang Yang

Service and delivery robots often need to complete long-horizon navigation missions spanning indoor and outdoor environments. Existing embodied navigation benchmarks primarily evaluate isolated stages or partial cross-domain journeys, providing limited support for assessing how heterogeneous navigation capabilities compose under continuous execution.

GLST: Global-Local Spatio-Temporal Memory Decomposition Framework for Online Chained-Goal Navigation

Yousef Liang, Ryan Ardalan, Yarden Goraly, Chenhao Zhu, Yue Yin, Jonas Frey, Claire Tomlin, Marco Pavone, Shankar Sastry

Autonomous navigation in real-world environments often requires long-horizon operation under partial observability and evolving goals. Existing mapless navigation approaches predominantly assume fixed goals throughout an episode, limiting applicability to practical scenarios where goals change online during execution.

Autonomous 3D Visual-Thermal Inspection for Utility-Scale Solar Farms

Lachlan Tychsen-Smith, Mark Cox, Brett Wood, David Haddon, Kenrick Anderson, Benjamin Duck, Jim O'Malley, Noel W Duffy, Peyman Moghadam

Utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) inspection is dominated by aerial surveys, which are effective for identifying module-level hot cells but provide limited visibility of critical components located under the array, including connectors, cabling, fasteners and structural elements. These assets are difficult to inspect consistently at scale, and their defects are often spatially small, partially occluded and difficult to localise from isolated images.

SkipWorld: Latent Skip Planning with Distilled World Models for Efficient Visual Navigation

Yifei Yang, Zehua Fan, Zike Yan, Zhongyu Li, Yan Wang

World-model-based visual navigation enables action planning by predicting future states under candidate trajectories. However, long-horizon rollout remains challenging: models are often trained with ground-truth visual histories but deployed in closed-loop prediction, and evaluating many candidates with step-by-step rollout is computationally expensive.

RTISSLAM: In-air Imaging Sonar SLAM using a Robust Pose Graph and Occupancy Grid Mapping

Jan Steckel

Sonar was one of the first sensors with which mobile robots built maps, and in-air sonar keeps working where cameras and lidar fail, in darkness, smoke, dust and next to glass. Classical sonar SLAM, however, relied on geometric features or occupancy grids built from sparse range readings, and both struggle with the specular reflections that dominate indoor sonar.

MemoryVLN: From Ego-Aware Memory Representation to Cross-Context Memory Reuse in Vision-Language Navigation

Xueyao Wei, Yifei Wang, Delun Li, Shaoan Wang, Junzhi Yu, Wenjie Song, Xingyu Chen

Large vision-language models (LVLMs) have shown strong potential for embodied vision-language navigation (VLN), yet their performance degrades on long-horizon trajectories due to context-length limits, redundant historical observations, and unstable spatial alignment across time. These issues make it difficult to both compress long navigation histories and reliably reuse past spatial experience.

Constrained Differentiable Policy Learning for Safe Quadrotor Navigation

Yan Rui Tan, Praveen Krishnapur, Zeyu Feng, Han Bao, Yew-Soon Ong, Fan Shi

Differentiable simulation enables efficient policy optimization through analytic gradients, yet safety is commonly incorporated as a weighted penalty, requiring manual tuning of the trade-off between task performance and constraint satisfaction. We instead formulate obstacle avoidance as an explicit constraint and train quadrotor policies using primal--dual gradient descent--ascent through a differentiable simulator.
