Estun Q3 revenue falls 12% to RMB 1.10bn as China's robot output booms; core profit up 133%
Estun Automation, the Nanjing industrial robot maker listed in Shenzhen and Hong Kong, said in its unaudited third-quarter report filed with the Hong Kong exchange on Oct 29 that revenue fell 12.43% to RMB 1.101 billion, while net profit attributable to shareholders rose 21.54% to RMB 18.7 million and profit excluding non-recurring items rose 133.31% to RMB 45.9 million.
A RMB 22.2 million fair-value loss on financial assets explains most of the gap between the two profit lines. For January to September revenue was RMB 3.699 billion, down 2.96%, and net profit RMB 170.8 million against RMB 8.2 million a year earlier.
MEKAWIRE comparison: China's official industrial-robot output rose 29% in the same nine months, so the country's best-known domestic robot brand is shrinking its sales in a growing market while widening its margin; nine-month gross margin, calculated from the filing, rose to 32.4% from 28.5%.
Estun Automation said in its third-quarter report, filed with the Hong Kong stock exchange on the evening of Oct 29, that revenue for July to September fell 12.43% from a year earlier to RMB 1.101 billion. Net profit attributable to shareholders rose 21.54% to RMB 18.7 million, and profit after deducting non-recurring items more than doubled, up 133.31% to RMB 45.9 million. The figures are unaudited and prepared under Chinese accounting standards; prior-year numbers were restated for a business combination under common control.
Why the two profit lines diverge
The gap between reported and core profit in the quarter comes mainly from a RMB 22.2 million loss on changes in the fair value of financial assets. Over nine months the same line was a RMB 77.3 million gain: the filing says an investee, Nanjing Technical, was restructured into listed Nanjing Chemical Fibre, so Estun's stake is now marked to a share price. That is why nine-month net profit of RMB 170.8 million, against RMB 8.2 million a year earlier, overstates the operating turnaround; profit excluding non-recurring items was RMB 116.0 million for the nine months, against RMB 2.1 million.
A shrinking top line in a growing market
Nine-month revenue was RMB 3.699 billion, down 2.96%. Over the same January to September period, China's National Bureau of Statistics counted 794,781 industrial robots produced, up 29%, as we reported on Oct 19, and our Q3 regional demand analysis found third-quarter output up about 30%. Estun's quarterly report does not split revenue by robots and motion-control components and gives no unit numbers, so the filing cannot say whether volume, price or mix drove the fall.

Source: Estun Automation 2026 third quarterly report (HKEX, Oct 29, 2026), unaudited, prior year restated. Gross margin = (revenue − operating costs) / revenue, MEKAWIRE calculation. As of Oct 30, 2026.
MEKAWIRE calculations from the income statement: nine-month gross margin rose to 32.4% from 28.5%, research and development spending was flat at RMB 337.1 million (9.1% of revenue), and operating profit rose to RMB 201.0 million from RMB 18.3 million. Cash rose 66% since December to RMB 1.50 billion after the March Hong Kong listing, which raised HK$1.49 billion gross. Contract liabilities, customer prepayments for future deliveries, fell 18% since December to RMB 479 million.
MEKAWIRE analysis
Estun is choosing margin over share: it is earning more on less revenue just as China's robot volumes climb, which leaves room for rivals to take the growth.
The evidence is in the filing: higher gross margin, flat R&D, lower revenue and falling customer prepayments. The strongest counter-argument is that one quarter is noisy and the restatement blurs comparisons; a single large prior-year contract could explain the drop. Investors will want the fourth quarter, when the full-year report should give segment and unit data.
