Foundry Robotics raises $100M Series A for a robot-run contract factory

Foundry Robotics announced a USD 100 million Series A on Oct 28 to scale a 130,000 square foot factory in Emeryville, California, where AI-driven robotic assembly cells build complex electromechanical hardware for commercial and defense customers as a contract service.

The company's site lists a team of more than 75 and ITAR registration; investors and valuation were not in the material MEKAWIRE could open. In our database it is the fifth Series A of USD 100 million or more since July 2026.

Foundry Robotics announced on Oct 28 that it has raised a USD 100 million Series A, in a Business Wire release titled as building America's first autonomous factory for assembly and on a banner across its own website. The release text was not reachable for MEKAWIRE (Business Wire returned an access error), and the company's site does not name investors or a valuation, so this story states only what the company's own pages confirm.

The business is a factory, not a robot product. Foundry runs a 130,000 square foot plant in Emeryville, California, which doubles as its headquarters, with more than 75 people, according to its site. Modular robotic assembly cells running physical-AI models on local compute perform assembly steps across different electromechanical products; the company's FoundryOS software schedules the cells and production runs and is meant to let the factory switch to a new product without rebuilding a line. Customers buy output, not machines: Foundry sells autonomous manufacturing-as-a-service for complex hardware, from components to finished assemblies, with digital traceability of parts and quality data. Its site lists commercial and defense industries and says it is ITAR registered, which allows it to handle US defense articles.

Where the round sits in MEKAWIRE's data

The round is large for a Series A. Since July 2026 MEKAWIRE has recorded five robotics Series A rounds of USD 100 million or more, led by Warp Sciences (USD 215 million) and Humanoid (USD 152 million); Foundry's ties with Holiday Robotics just above it [[table:1]]. Its closer peers sell automation capacity rather than robots: Formic (robots as a service, USD 50 million Series B and debt on Oct 22), Bright Machines (software-defined assembly lines), Machina Labs (robotic metal forming) and Vention (automation cells). Foundry's model is the most capital-heavy of the group, because it owns the plant and carries the production risk itself.

Why it matters

Contract manufacturers have long automated high-volume lines; the bet here is that AI-driven cells make low- and mid-volume electromechanical assembly, the work that keeps moving offshore, cheap enough to do in the Bay Area. The test is utilisation: a 130,000 square foot plant only pays back if the cells change products quickly and stay busy. Foundry has not named a customer or production volume. The next things to watch are named customers, especially defense programmes given the ITAR registration, and whether the investors in the round are disclosed.
